Kunstenaar Roth
"Justin Roth was born in upstate New York. His formative years, however, were spent travelling both internationally and nationally with his military family. Roth was always drawn to the artistic world that surrounded him. Drawing his early inspiration mostly from his travelling experiences, he became accustomed always to carry a sketchbook, enabling him to capture each moment as it happened. Roth also spent a great deal of time in art museums during his travels, allowing him to soak up the presence in the paintings of the masters.
Roth’s inspiration has stemmed from an array of artists that span across the centuries of art history. In his collection of favourites, Roth most notably mentions his respect for Sargent, Velasquez, Klimt, Degas and Burton Silverman for their attention to detail and imagination. He also finds great interest and inspiration in aged buildings and structures. The artist feels that within the walls of these weathered and rusted exteriors rests the story of the people and the environment which the structure has seen in its time. In addition, the artist has also expressed a connection to the Victorian age. Justin is most fascinated by the amount of ornamental art and design found in all characteristics of the period. He is attracted to the decorative aspects in the architecture, clothing, and even to the hairstyles of this era.
The artist’s own style is best described as a window to a moment portrayed in the way that it feels, rather than how it looks in a literal sense. It is a thoughtful glimpse into time’s best kept secrets. Delicate gardens, European café scenes and bustling marketplaces overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables are uniquely and subtly rendered with an easygoing allure and charisma. Roth’s imagination and consideration for detail allow us to rest, if only fleetingly, in the shadows of vignettes that most of us only dream about. “When I work on a piece, I am mainly concerned with capturing a moment in time. I try to make that moment look like a memory. It feels more personal that way”, Roth says of his own creative processes."
